Michael Hanegan is the Founder and Chief Research Officer of the Center for the Future of Learning and Work. He is an adjunct professor at Rose State College and the University of Central Oklahoma. He is the co-author (with Chris Rosser) of ***Generative AI and Libraries: Claiming Our Place in the Center of a Shared Future*** (ALA Editions + CORE). He works across K-12, Higher Education, Library World, and Industry to redefine the relationship of learning and work in the Age of Intelligence in ways that are unapologetically human-centered. He lives in Edmond, Oklahoma with his family, dog, and far too many unread books and unanswered questions.

It is my opinion that libraries vastly underestimate how central they are to the moment we are entering, and I am even more convinced that, for as much as libraries and librarians underestimate their importance, everyone else misses it even worse. Here’s what we know for sure: The world we live in is about to go through rapid, unprecedented, and largely unpredictable change, and it is going to take all of our wisdom, experience, expertise, and ethics to ensure that the coming iteration of our shared life is good for the whole human family, not just a select few.
The first place where libraries and librarians must begin to navigate this disruption is at the intersection of learning and work.
